“We are just about the biggest truck on earth.”
That’s the claim by Dublin truck maker, Truckbox, who have created a “light box” for the first time in the UK.
Truckbox’s light box will be installed at a fleet of Dublin-bound haulage companies on Tuesday night as part of the city’s bid to win a new £10 billion investment in the transport sector.
The company said it hopes to have the light box in place by Christmas, as part a £20 million investment.
Dublin is hoping to win an investment of up to £10bn by 2020 as part the government’s transport investment package, with the company’s latest light box being designed to be the world first.
“It’s the lightest truck on the planet,” said the company.
“You can’t beat that.
It’s a lightweight box, it’s got the best insulation and the best thermal conductivity.”
So it’s a very powerful light box.
“Dublin has been looking for ways to cut costs as it tries to boost growth in the city and cut congestion.
Last year, the Irish city announced that it would invest more than £3bn in its transport network, bringing the total funding to £25bn.
The city has already pledged to invest £6.6bn over the next five years to tackle congestion and pollution, and will be putting a further £1bn towards reducing air pollution.
The City of Dublin is also investing a further $7.5bn over four years to help develop a green network of cycling, walking and public transport.
Trucks will be able to park at their own leisure, while the company has created the world standard light box for truck drivers.”
When we were building our first light box we didn’t know that we would have this opportunity,” said David McGowan, Trucks Ireland’s managing director.”
The Dublin City Council and the Government, they are really interested in getting it up and running in Dublin.
“We’re very grateful to them.”
Dubliners’ love for their trucks and their love of their trucks means it has been a challenge for Dublin to compete with other major cities for the light-box market.
The Dublin truck market is currently dominated by a number of companies including Dublin’s own Truckbox.
Dubliners are not the only ones to want a truck box.
Dublin’s local competitor, the Dutch company Eurowings, recently opened its first truck depot in the Irish port city of Cork.
